I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1999 with a BA(Hons) in Illustration and an MA in Communication Design, and have been working as an illustrator ever since under the representation of The Organisation.
My work is colourful and lively with broad appeal and I like to add decorative elements or a mood of drama where appropriate. Over the years I have worked for a wide range of clients including:
Chronicle Books, Crocodile Creek, Barefoot Books, Egmont Children's Books, Faber & Faber, Weidenfeld &
Nicolson, Orion Children's Books, David Fickling Books, Random House, Hodder Headline, Penguin,
Macmillan, Time Warner Books, Duncan Baird Publishers, Transworld
Publishers, Oxford University Press, Lion Publishing,
HarperCollins, BBC, Fox Kalomaski, Mother, CAFOD, Christian Aid and many others.
Recently I have illustrated the Barefoot Book of Children, which Barefoot are calling the most important book they have published in 25 years - a timely look at what makes us unique and what connects us, with an emphasis on diversity and inclusivity.
In 2011 I illustrated the Barefoot Books World Atlas which is now in its sixth printing and has been translated into several languages. The book has been featured on BBC television, and the App for iPad and iPhone based on it has been an 'App of the week' and was listed as one of the ten best apps by the App Store for their 5th anniversary. To date it has seen over 4 million downloads.
I have illustrated all five of Lauren St John's White Giraffe series of novels (Orion), which were shortlisted for a British Book Design and Production award, as well as four of her Laura Marlin Mysteries including the Blue Peter Book Award-winning Dead Man's Cove.
In 2012 my cover illustration for Shine by Candy Gourlay (David Fickling Books) took a gold award in the annual 3x3 Picture Book Show.
My cover for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Oxford University Press, 2014) was shortlisted in the Children's Book category of the Association of Illustrators' annual Illustration Awards, and was awarded a merit in the 3x3 Picture Book Show.
I live in Cheshire, England.
